Step-by-step guide on how to install Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (formerly Acronis True Image) on a Mac and run your first backup:
Part 1: Install Acronis on Mac
1. Download Acronis Software:
Visit the official Acronis website (acronis.com).
Navigate to the Products section and download the Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office for Mac.
You may need to create an account or log in to your existing Acronis account.
2. Open the Installer:
Once the download is complete, open the
.dmg
file (Acronis installer).Drag the Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office icon into the Applications folder to install the app.
3. Launch Acronis:
Go to the Applications folder and double-click the Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office icon to launch the application.
If you receive a prompt from macOS asking if you want to open this app, click Open.
4. Sign In or Create an Account:
When the Acronis interface opens, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your Acronis account. If you don’t have an account, you can create one.
After signing in, enter your activation key (if you purchased a subscription) or choose a trial if you want to test the software first.
5. Grant Permissions:
Acronis will request permission to access your system’s files, network drives, and external devices. You’ll need to grant these permissions for the app to back up your data.

Part 2: Running Your First Backup

After selecting the source, choose a Backup Destination by clicking Change Destination. You can back up to:
An external hard drive connected to your Mac.
A network-attached storage (NAS) device.
The Acronis Cloud (if you have an Acronis subscription).
If you’re using an external hard drive, connect it before selecting it as a destination.
3. Set a Backup Schedule:
You can set a backup schedule by clicking the Schedule option in the backup settings.
Options include:
Daily
Weekly
Monthly
Nonstop Backup (real-time continuous backup)
Manual (you initiate backups manually)
4. Configure Backup Options (Optional):
Click Options to further customize your backup:
Backup Encryption: Set a password to encrypt your backup for added security.
Backup Scheme: Choose the type of backup (e.g., full backup, incremental, or differential).
Retention Rules: Configure how long backups should be kept.
5. Start the Backup:
Once everything is configured, click Back Up Now to start the backup process.
Acronis will begin copying your selected files or system to the chosen destination.
6. Monitor Backup Progress:
While the backup is running, you can monitor its progress in the Acronis interface. You’ll see a progress bar, estimated time remaining, and details on the files being backed up.
Part 3: Restore Data (Optional)
If you need to restore data from a backup:
Go to the Backup tab.
Select the backup set from which you want to restore.
Click Recover.
Choose specific files/folders or restore the entire system, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Final Notes:
External Drive: Ensure the external drive has enough space for your backup if you choose this as your destination.
Cloud Backup: If you’re using Acronis Cloud, make sure you have a stable internet connection for uploading and restoring data.
Automatic Backups: After setting up the schedule, Acronis will automatically back up your Mac according to the set time intervals.
With Acronis, your data will be safely backed up and easily recoverable in case of accidental deletion, hardware failure, or other data loss events.
