Step-by-step guide on how to install Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office (formerly Acronis True Image) on Windows and run your first backup:
Part 1: Install Acronis on Windows
1. Download Acronis Software:
Visit the official Acronis website (acronis.com).
Navigate to the Products section and download Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office for Windows.
Save the installer file to your computer.
2. Run the Installer:
Once the download is complete, locate the installer file (usually in the Downloads folder) and double-click it to launch the installer.
If prompted by User Account Control (UAC), click Yes to allow the installer to make changes to your system.
3. Install Acronis:
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process:
Accept the License Agreement.
Select the destination folder (or leave it at the default location).
Click Install to begin the installation.
4. Launch Acronis:
Once the installation is complete, click Finish, and Acronis Cyber Protect will launch automatically.
If it doesn’t, open Acronis Cyber Protect Home Office from the Start menu.
5. Sign In or Create an Account:
You will be prompted to sign in with your Acronis account. If you don’t have one, you can create an account.
Enter your activation key if you have purchased a subscription, or start with a free trial.
Part 2: Running Your First Backup on Windows
1. Open the Backup Tab:
Once signed in, Acronis will open the main dashboard. Go to the Backup tab to start setting up your first backup.
2. Choose Backup Source:
Click on Change Source and select what you want to back up:
Entire PC: This will back up the entire Windows system, including all files, settings, and applications.
Files and Folders: Choose specific files or folders to back up.
Disks and Partitions: You can choose specific partitions or disks to back up, like the system disk or a secondary storage drive.
3. Select Backup Destination:
Click on Change Destination and select where you want to save your backup:
External Hard Drive: Choose an external USB drive or another attached storage device.
Network Drive: If you have a network-attached storage (NAS) device, select it as the destination.
Acronis Cloud: If you have an Acronis Cloud subscription, you can choose to back up to the cloud.
4. Set Backup Schedule (Optional):
Click on the Schedule option to configure how frequently Acronis should back up your files:
Daily: Back up your data every day.
Weekly: Perform backups on specific days of the week.
Monthly: Run backups on a specific day each month.
Nonstop Backup: Continuously back up data as changes are made.
Manual: Only back up when you manually start the process.
5. Customize Backup Options (Optional):
Click Options to adjust settings for your backup:
Backup Encryption: You can encrypt the backup with a password for added security.
Backup Scheme: Choose from Full, Incremental, or Differential backups.
Retention Rules: Define how long Acronis should keep old backups.
Notifications: Set up email or desktop notifications for backup status updates.
6. Start the Backup:
After configuring the backup settings, click Back Up Now to initiate the backup process.
Acronis will begin copying the selected data to the destination.
7. Monitor Backup Progress:
While the backup is running, you can monitor the progress, see the remaining time, and view which files are being backed up in real-time.
Part 3: Restore Data from Backup (Optional)
If you need to restore data from your backup:
Go to the Backup tab.
Select the backup set from which you want to restore data.
Click Recover.
Choose whether to restore specific files or folders, or the entire system.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery.
Final Notes:
External Hard Drive: Make sure the external drive has enough space for your backup.
Acronis Cloud: If backing up to the cloud, ensure you have a reliable internet connection.
Scheduled Backups: If you’ve set a backup schedule, Acronis will automatically perform backups according to the defined time intervals.
System Backup: If you back up the entire system, Acronis will allow you to restore Windows to its previous state in case of system failure or data loss.
