Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to install ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro on a Mac device:
1. Purchase or Download ESET for Mac
Visit the ESET website to purchase an ESET license or download a free trial.
If you already have a license key, keep it handy for activation during the installation process.
2. Download the Installer
Go to the ESET for Mac download page.
Select your product (either ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro) and click Download.
The installer will begin downloading to your Mac.
3. Run the Installer
Once the installer file (eset_cybersecurity.dmg
or similar) has finished downloading:
Open the Downloads folder and double-click the downloaded .dmg file.
A window will open with the ESET Installer icon. Double-click the Install ESET icon to begin the installation process.
4. Follow the Installation Prompts
A welcome screen will appear. Click Continue to start the installation.
You will be presented with the ESET End User License Agreement (EULA). Review the agreement and click Agree to continue.
5. Enter Mac Administrator Password
To allow ESET to install:
You will be prompted to enter your Mac administrator password. Enter your password and click OK to proceed.
6. Grant Required Permissions
ESET requires certain system permissions to function correctly on macOS. The installer will guide you through enabling them:
When prompted, click Open System Preferences to go to the Security & Privacy settings.
In the General tab of Security & Privacy, click the Allow button to enable the ESET system extension.
You may also need to allow Full Disk Access to enable ESET to scan all files on your Mac. To do this:
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.
Select Full Disk Access from the list on the left.
Click the lock icon at the bottom left and enter your Mac administrator password to make changes.
Click the + button to add ESET Cyber Security to the list of apps with full access.
7. Activate ESET
Once installation is complete, the software will prompt you to activate your ESET product. You have several options:
Enter License Key: If you’ve purchased a license, enter the key here.
Free Trial: If you want to try ESET, you can activate a free trial (you’ll need to provide an email address).
Activate Later: You can skip this step, but your protection will be limited until you activate the product.
8. Complete Installation
Once activation is done:
The installation will finish, and ESET will begin running in the background.
Click Finish to close the installation window.
9. Run an Initial Scan
Open the ESET Cyber Security or ESET Cyber Security Pro app from the Applications folder or the menu bar icon.
Click Scan your computer to perform an initial scan and ensure that your Mac is free from malware or other security threats.
10. Update ESET
ESET automatically downloads the latest virus definitions and updates. Ensure that the software is updated to keep your Mac protected against new threats.
You’ve successfully installed ESET on your Mac. Your device is now protected from viruses, malware, ransomware, and other cyber threats.
